Mission, OR – The dry weather provided high tones on ceremonial drums at the 25th Annual Wildhorse Pow Wow over the weekend. And while the heat made dancing in buckskin a challenge, competitors were undeterred and performances were lively and honorable.
Vendors provided hungry customers with plenty of fry bread topped with fruit jam, cinnamon sugar or melting peanut butter and satisfied thirst with fresh squeezed lemonade. Artisans sold beaded lanyards and handcrafted jewelry or printed tees and hats with Native American themes.
Drummers and dancers traveled from around the U.S. and Canada to compete for prize money and respect. Twenty-five drum groups participated along with 362 dancers, marking the 25th year of the colorful event.
